Lucky Charm – Sharks Win Third March Madness Tournament

It may have been the USSSA PRIDE MARCH MADNESS but it felt more like the March Melancholy. It seemed like the

Sharks spectators and parents needed some outside help keeping their eyes open let alone on the game.  The Sharks managed to bore everyone to a state of zombieness with their dull and lackadaisical performance in their first couple of games vs the Cruisers Green. Hmmmm who knows, maybe the color green is used to bring on slumber or hypnosis. Luckily for all, they woke up just in time to bring it on in the Championship game vs the Sunrise Thunder.  Good morning, Sharks. Nice of you all to show up tonight. The Sharks ultimately redeemed themselves with a 14-2 mercy rule victory over the Thunder in just 3 innings. – Mia Veliz, #MarkTwaininTraining

It’s not how you start, but how you finish.  And for the love of St. Patrick, the Sharks finished this one in spectacular fashion winning this tournament for the third time.

The Box Score

  • Sharks over Cruisers Green 4-2
  • Sharks over Cruisers Green 5-2 (bracket)
  • Sharks over Lightspeed 7-0 (bracket)
  • Sharks over Sunrise Thunder 14-2 (bracket)

Sharks over Cruisers Green 4-2 – Taylor threw a no-hitter as the Sharks cruised to a 4-2 victory over Cruisers Green.  The Cruisers managed to score off of two errors by the Sharks.  However, the Sharks offense provided just enough of a lift to prevail in the only seeding game of the day.  Sami was solid at the plate.  She drove in one and scored one run. She doubled in the fourth inning.  The Sharks put the game away in the fourth as they added two more runs. Sami doubled, scoring Marley to start the inning. That was followed up by Brandi’s double, bringing home Sami.

Sharks over Cruisers Green 5-2  – Lindsey went 2-2 to help boost the Sharks over the Cruisers Green, again.  She singled in the second inning and tripled in the fourth inning. Neither team scored until the fourth when Cruisers Green got on the board. The Sharks were on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring five runs on an RBI double by Taylor and three singles.  This game was closer than caterpillar’s belly to the dirt.  But at least they won.

Sharks over Lightspeed 7-0 – A second-inning rally sparked a blowout win for the Sharks. Chelsea racked up three RBIs on three hits.  She tripled in the first inning and singled in the second and fifth innings.  Taylor pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five.  The Sharks still looked about as sluggish as a sleeping Koala bear.  We were just hoping that they’d show some life in the Championship game.

Sharks over Sunrise Thunder 14-2 – In spite of three rather dreadful performances by the Sharks in seeding and bracket play, they managed to put together a complete team effort and blasted Sunrise 14-2.  Chelsea’s bat was hotter than the surface of Venus; she went 3 for 3 with a ‘Go Get My Ball’ home run over the right field fence.  Dang that girl can hit!  Taylor, Taco, Lindsey and Brookie each got 2 hits.  And one hit apiece was delivered by Mia, Sami, Brandi, and AJ. That’s more hits than the www.healthcare.gov site!  Brandi kept the Thunder batters off-balance with zero earned runs.

Outstanding Players of the Tournament
