Mother’s Day Tournament at Wellington

Happy moms dayHappy Mother’s Day!   The Sharks went 2-1-1 at the Mother’s Day tournament at Wellington this past weekend.  It was a tale of two very good games, a so-so game, and a game in which nothing worked for the Sharks (and everything went well for the Dusters 2000, who went on eventually to win the whole shebang).  There were so pretty good highlights of the tournament:  Chelsea had two home runs; Taco had a home run; Marley made some outstanding catches in left field and the team as whole hit well for most of the tournament.

The Box Score

  • Sharks over Pines Thunder Black 13-3
  • Sharks over Wellington Wild 11-3
  • Sharks tied Coral Springs Panthers 2-2
  • Dusters 2000 over Sharks 10-1

Sharks over Pines Thunder 13-3 – The Sharks jumped out to an early lead on Pines Thunder Black and captured a 13-3 victory on Saturday.  The game was decided quickly as Sharks exerted its will early with 13 runs in the first three innings. An RBI triple by Marley Felder, a groundout by Anna Knight, a three-run home run by Chelsea Brown, and a two-run single by Brandi Antonio in the second inning fueled their offense early.  Marley put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits.  The Sharks piled on six more runs in the top of the third. Anna’s single got things going, scoring Marley. That was followed up by Mia Veliz‘s single, bringing home Anna.

Sharks over Wild 11-3 –  The Sharks scored five runs in the second on a groundout by Marley Felder, an RBI single by Mia Veliz, and a three-run home run by Chelsea Brown.  Chelsea racked up three RBIs on two hits.  The top of the first saw the Sharks take an early lead, 2-0. A two-run blast by Jordyn Griffith, plating Mia started the inning off.  It didn’t take long for Wellington Wild to answer as it scored three runs of its own in the first. Wellington Wild scored on a hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly by #11, and a steal of home by #27.  The Sharks built upon its lead with four runs in the fourth. A clutch steal of home scored Mia; this was followed up by Taco’s single, scoring Chelsea.

Tied Game – Sharks 2, Panthers 2 – What can you say about a tied game?  It’s like describing the anatomy of a potato.  Boooring.  Anyhow, The Sharks had 4 hits, the Panthers had 3.  The Sharks had 2 errors, the Panthers 1.  Is it any wonder neither team won?

Dusters over Sharks 10-1 – The Sharks fell 10-1 to the Dusters 2000.  Four Dusters combined for six hits and five RBIs.  The Dusters 2000 stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first and never relinquishing it.  The Sharks managed to score one run in the fifth inning on a groundout by Brandi.  It was a game where the Dusters were just ‘on’ and the Sharks…well, they’ve had better days!  Hats off to Eliza for pitching a great game. Congrats to the Dusters 2000 for eventually winning the entire thing.
