In what was ultimately a marathon of sorts, the Sharks went undefeated in 5 games beating the Rock in the ‘Championship’ game to win the NSA State tournament.  The difference maker in the tournament were the Sharks’ 48 hits over five games!  That’s more hits than Elvis Presley and Lil Wayne combined. Sharks NSA A Champs 2014 14U

Sharks over Florida Gold John 5-3

The Sharks fended off Florida Gold’s late push to hold on to a 5-3 lead.  AJ Chang sparked the Sharks with 2 hits.  Florida Gold scored three runs in the fourth on a groundout by #12. Despite its efforts, Florida Gold couldn’t get over the hump. AJ Chang racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Sharks. She singled in the second and fourth innings. The game’s last lead went to the Sharks thanks to a second inning rally that saw five runs cross the plate on two doubles and a two-run single by AJ.

Sharks tie Florida Gold JR 8-8

In one of the most lackluster and ugly performances ever, the Sharks tied the Florida Gold JR 8-8.  This games was as lackluster as a muddy rock on the bottom of the Mississippi.  Taco came in to pitch and held Florida Gold JR hitless over 2 innings.  The Sharks managed only 7 hits (2 by Taco, and one each by Chelsea, Brookie, Brandi, Sami and Marley).  This was a game that needs to be deleted from the memory banks.  This wasn’t Shark ball.  It was guppy ball.

Sharks over Florida Gold John 7-5

In the first game of elimination, the Sharks faced the Florida Gold John again.  It’s like groundhog day at NSA States.  The Sharks pulled out the win thanks to a strong fourth inning.  The Sharks went up for good on a two-run double by Sami bringing home Chelsea and Taylor.  Sami came through in the clutch again!

Sharks over Tampa Mustangs 11-6

In the second game of elimination, the Sharks packed a wallop.  With 15 hits, there was nothing to stop this tsunami of runs.  The Mustangs actually held the lead until the fourth.  In the fourth, the Sharks went up for good on an RBI single by Brandi scoring Sami.  Chelsea went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. She tripled in the third inning and singled in the fourth inning.  Once again, Chelsea hits some screamers that would have taken the head off the Statue of Liberty. In this game, EVERY Shark got a hit!

Sharks over Rock 9-3 (Championship game)

Let’s just say that the first four games played by the Sharks showed about as much fire and enthusiasm as the main characters from Night of the Living Dead.  But something woke them up for the last game.  Was it the smelling salts?  Taco in a bag?  Watermelon?  Whatever it was, we need to give more of that ‘energy’ fix to them!  Chelsea racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Sharks thus sparking them to a 9-3 win.  She singled in the third inning and tripled in the fourth inning.  The Sharks never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring two runs on two singles.  The Sharks built upon its lead with three runs in the third.  Taco’s single got things going, scoring Brookie.  The Sharks tacked on another four runs in the fourth. A triple by Chelsea ignited the offense scoring Brookie, AJ Chang and Marley.

ESPN Plays of the Day

  • Mia had a stellar weekend of play at Shortstop, except when she tripped on her own shoelaces :-)
  • Marley made an amazing catch at Shortstop.  She stopped a line drive with her glove, only to make barehanded catch of the ball before it dropped!
  • Sami had a walk off hit to beat the Florida Gold in the first game of elimination.
