Sharks Reach the Weston KO Tournament Championship for the Third Year in a Row!

The Sharks made it to the Championship Game at the Weston November Knockout tournament for the 3rd year in a row! We won it the last two times we made it. Not so this time. The Sharks came oh so close to winning this tournament. All it would have taken was one hit. Just one hit. Unfortunately in the Championship game, the Sting Rays pulled off the improbable double play that ultimately resulted in the Sharks losing in a hard fought game. On the bright side, the Sharks played some great competition and in reaching the Championship game beating two 18U teams. That’s not so shabby for a bunch of 13 and 14 year olds.

Sharks second place November KO 2014

Sharks tie Lady Bandits Showcase 2-2

Taylor pitched lights out for the Sharks. Lady Bandits Showcase managed just one hit off of Taylor. The Sharks managed only 5 hits, but it was enough to keep this game close. Hits were contributed by Rosie, Marley, Taylor, Chelsea and Sami. Needless to say, we would get a rematch the next day.

Miami Lady Canes 18U over Sharks 8-3

Rosie had a great day at the plate going for 2-2, but the Sharks still fell to Miami Lady Canes 18U 8-3 in five innings. The top of the first saw the Sharks take an early lead, 2-0. A double by Chelsea, plating Marley and Taco started the inning off. The game was however never in doubt after the third, as Miami Lady Canes scored five runs on two errors, a solo home run, and an RBI single. Again, a rematch was much needed. And we got one.

Sharks over Pines Thunder 2-0

Sami went 1-2, helping the Sharks to a 2-0 victory over Pines Thunder. She doubled in the first inning. The Sharks’ Taylor kept Pines Thunder off the scoreboard for all four innings. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up two. The Deerfield Beach Sharks 14U never trailed after scoring two runs in the first on an RBI double by Sami.

Sharks over Lady Bandits Showcase 5-1

I love rematches. Three first-inning runs helped the Sharks to a 5-1 win over Lady Bandits Showcase. The Sharks scored in the first on a two-run double by Sami and a passed ball.  Brandi brought the heat against Lady Bandits Showcase during her outing. Lady Bandits Showcase managed just two hits off of Antonio, who allowed no earned runs and struck out three during her five innings of work. The Lady Bandits Showcase’s lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning on an RBI double. We won when it counted.

Sharks over Miami Lady Canes 1-0

Chelsea came through with a home run blast in the fourth inning, perhaps her best hit ever, sparking the Deerfield Beach Sharks 14U to a 1-0 victory in four innings over Miami Lady Canes 18U on Sunday. The Deerfield Beach Sharks 14U’s Taylor kept the Miami Lady Canes 18U off the scoreboard for all four innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two. Hey, we beat an 18U team that beat us the day before. Nice job Sharks.

Sting Rays over Sharks 12-7

What a CRAZY game this was. We got 11 hits, allowed 6 hits, but did not make THE play when it counted. You win some, you lose some. Both teams made incredible plays. We happened to make one less incredible play. The Sting Rays 16U’s sixth inning charge beat the Sharks 12-7. Brandi, Marley and Taco each got 2 hits. While hits were also contributed by Rosie, AJ, Brookie, Mia, and Taylor. We need a rematch.

Moral of the Story: The Sharks can compete against 18U teams and beat them. That would be like the Sharks getting beat by a 10U team. Think about them apples.
